The Seiko 6139 is the subject of far better and more in depth writing than what I can provide here. Suffice it to say, it potentially can lay claim to being the first serially produced Automatic Chronograph introduced to the market, it also has a valuable connection to space travel through its connection with Colonel Pogue who wore his Seiko 6139 during his NASA Skylab 4 mission in 1973 on the opposite wrist to his NASA issued Omega Speedmaster Professional. Having worn the 6139 during his 6 month training prior to the space flight and his familiarity with the watch he brought it on board in the leg pocket of his space suit, a detail that wasn’t confirmed with certainty until 2007.

Seiko Catalogues from 1969 show the list price at $100 USD – Adjusted for inflation that brings the 2018 cost to $687.00 USD or approximately $1050. There aren’t too many iconic vintage watches from the late 60’s and 70’s that can be purchased for close to their original recommended retail price.

This variation features the black dial with silver inner rotating bezel. The blue and red segmented tachymetre bezel presents in authentic condition for its age and is original too the watch. The subdial minute hand is accurate and original and the chronograph centre sweep hands reliably resets to Zero.
